Mustapha Pasha Algiers Hospital

The Mustapha University Hospital is one of the largest and most important hospitals in Algeria. Founded by the French in 1854 in the center of the capital, on an area of 15 hectares, this hospital dates back to the colonization period with a building complex of 09 hectares.

in 1840, by the will of Mr. Fortin, a wealthy colonist from Ivry, a donation of 1,200,000 francs was made to the city of Algiers, providing funds for the construction of a civil hospital in Mustapha. in 1854, by decision of the governor's office, Mustapha was preferred over Khérratine, and on August 1, the new facilities, consisting of military barracks but improved by partial arrangements, were consecrated with a religious ceremony.

A year later, in 1855, on May 21, civilian doctors began teaching students at the Mustapha Hospital, and the hospital confirmed its dual mission, stating that it had both a faculty hospital and great teaching services. However, the opening of the official medical classes took place on January 18, 1859, in two barracks, one reserved for women and another reserved for men.

in 1877, due to the necessity of demographic growth and scientific progress, a plan for 14 pavilions was drawn by an architect named Voinot and the construction of other buildings began. The first two specialized clinics were established at the same time, the pediatric diseases clinic in 1883 and the obstetrics clinic in 1884. in 1930, Dr. According to Raynaud, the number of pavilions has almost doubled and reached 29.

The enlargements, which were stopped due to the war, have almost never stopped since 1944. Mustapha University Hospital offers a wide range of services in various medical branches such as dermatology, diabetology, gastroenterology, forensic medicine, hepatology, immunology, neonatology, neurology, ophthalmology, oral pathology and surgery, parasitology and mycology, periodontology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, surgical clinics and thoracic surgery.
